My PT Cruiser is in the shop for some body work due to someone hitting it.

The loaner car was a Buick Verano. It's not a bad car even with the base non-turbo 4cyl engine. It's a little faster than my old PT, but is less fun since it does everything with less drama/harshness. When I floored it to get up to highway speeds, it definitely isn't slow. But it's well sorted enough that while it's somewhat fast, it doesn't *feel* that fast. In a way it reminds me of an AWD Acura RL I drove a while back. When I'd nail it in that car, I knew I was going fast since I was leaving everyone in the dust. But the car was so well sorted, it felt like it needed another 100-200hp (in addition to the 300hp it already had) to actually feel fast.

The base engine in the Verano isn't the nicest sounding, but the sound is well deadened and sounds no worse than the PT.

The 6 speed auto shifts quite well too. It's quite comfortable for a smaller car and would be pretty good for long drives I think. For the few days I drove it so far, I'm averaging about 7.8L/100km... with more highway driving than city. That's a little better than my manual PT which has averaged 8.1L/100km over the past couple of years. But I noticed that in city driving, it probably gets worse. When I got the car, the average fuel economy from prior drivers was 10.3L/100km.

When I floored it to get up to highway speeds,

I find the way the A pillars are with little triangular windows are a little odd, but easy to get used to.

I find the seats to be comfortable enough and the dashboard is nice enough.

I figured out how to use the built in computer functions without having to read the manual... so that's a good thing.

The radio is decent enough as well.

I think it would be a good daily driver... and a good replacement for the PT if it had a manual and a wagon body style.

The only thing that bugs me about the Verano are the chrome strips above the rear lights.

They remind me of this guy from Breaking Bad:

I had the brown manual diesel wagon Astra version as a rental car a while back. It was competent but boring in a "this is the perfect car for people who hate cars" way.

I was originally trying to draw a face that made use of the eyebrows... but then I got lazy.

I drove one a few times as well. Manual, hatch, gasoline, black. It reminded me of a Toyota, and that's not meant as a compliment.

I've not driven the Auris for a fair comparison, but it was a bit better than the blurple blob.

Sorry for the late response. As of now, just you and me, that I know of. But we actually are willing to driving one. There are a few others users here who used to drive a pt cruiser, but not anymore.

What year and trim level cruiser do you drive? I drive a '08 Base model, surf blue pearlcoat, :).

I actually don't drive a PT cruiser, I was just wondering if you knew of others.

Ah, my bad. Thought you were Manwich., don't I feel silly, :p.

Nope, no others come to mind that currently drive it. It's not exactly a 'enthusiasts' car; it's a heavy, fwd, hatchback/wagon. But it's a pretty decent car, at least the 2nd gen ones (I think).
